Why isn't my med spa showing up in ChatGPT?

Because ChatGPT either cannot read your website, or has no reason to trust it. When someone asks for the best med spa near them, the engine assembles an answer from sources it can parse and verify. Most med spa sites fail that test on technical grounds before quality even gets judged. Fix the five failures below and your clinic becomes citable.

None of this is about tricks. It is about being legible to the machine that patients now ask first.

How ChatGPT picks the clinics it names

When a patient asks a local recommendation question, the engine does three things fast. It searches the open web, it reads the pages it can actually parse, and it names the options it can describe with confidence. Every step is a filter. If your site cannot be fetched, you fall at step one. If it renders as an empty JavaScript shell, you fall at step two. If there is nothing structured or specific to quote, you fall at step three.

The clinics that survive all three filters get named. Everyone else is invisible, no matter how good their work is.

The five reasons you're missing

  1. Your site blocks AI crawlers. A firewall rule or a robots.txt line stops GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot at the door. Many templates ship this way and nobody notices.
  2. Your content only renders with JavaScript. Most AI crawlers do not run scripts. If your builder paints the page client-side, the crawler reads a blank shell. Services, results, location, gone.
  3. A noindex tag is telling engines to ignore you. One leftover line from a developer quietly opts you out of every index and every answer.
  4. No structured data. Without LocalBusiness or MedicalClinic schema, the engine cannot confirm who you are, where you are, or what you treat. Low confidence means no citation.
  5. Nothing worth quoting. If the site never answers the questions patients ask, there is no sentence for the engine to lift. Thin content reads as low authority.
Fewer than one in ten med spa sites we score pass all five of these tests. The average clinic scores in the 50s on a 100-point AI visibility check. That is the gap, and for the clinics that move first, the opportunity.

What to do this week

  • Run the free check. It reads your site the way ChatGPT does and shows exactly which of the five failures apply to you.
  • Unblock the crawlers. Allow GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended in robots.txt.
  • Kill any noindex. Check the meta robots tag and the X-Robots-Tag header.
  • Add clinic schema. Name, address, phone, hours, services, in LocalBusiness or MedicalClinic markup.
  • Answer real questions on the page. Pricing, safety, downtime, results. Question-shaped headings with direct answers underneath.

Straight answers

Can I pay to show up in ChatGPT?

Not in the organic answer. There is no ad box to buy your way into when someone asks for the best med spa near them. The clinics named are the ones the engine can read and trust, which is exactly why fixing readability is worth more than another ad campaign.

How long does it take to start showing up?

Technical fixes are read on the next crawl, often within days to a few weeks. Trust builds from there as your content, reviews, and profiles reinforce each other. It is a compounding asset, and the clinics that start first stay ahead.

Is ChatGPT visibility worth it compared to Google?

It is not either-or. The same fixes that make you readable to ChatGPT strengthen your Google presence, and Google itself now answers with AI. One foundation feeds both.
