AI Search for Med Spas: How to Get Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI

To get recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI, your med spa has to pass five tests: the engines must be able to reach your site, read it without running JavaScript, confirm who you are through structure, find something specific worth quoting, and corroborate it across the web. Pass all five and you become the answer. Fail any one and the answer is built from your competitors.

This is the definitive version of the playbook. Each part links to a deeper post if you want the detail.

Why AI search decides bookings now

Patients stopped scrolling and started asking. When someone types a question into ChatGPT or watches Google answer at the top of the page, they get one synthesized answer with a handful of named sources. There is no page two. Being the named clinic is the whole game, and in most markets that seat is still empty. Fewer than one in ten med spa sites we score are built to be read.

Part 1: Access. Can the engines reach you?

AI crawlers obey robots.txt and give up at firewalls. One copied template line or one security plugin toggle can lock every engine out. The five reasons clinics go missing almost always start here.

  • Allow GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended in robots.txt.
  • Whitelist AI user agents in your firewall or CDN.
  • Remove any noindex directive from the meta robots tag and the X-Robots-Tag header.

Part 2: Readability. Is your content in the HTML?

Most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript. If your site builder paints the page client-side, the crawler reads a near-empty shell. Server-render or pre-render, so your services, results, and location exist as real text. Check whether AI can read you in thirty seconds.

Part 3: Structure. Can a machine confirm who you are?

Structure is how engines move from reading to trusting. That means one clear H1, semantic landmarks, and schema markup: LocalBusiness or MedicalClinic with your name, address, phone, hours, and services, plus FAQPage where you answer questions. Which schema a med spa needs is its own short read.

Part 4: Substance. Is there anything worth quoting?

Engines cite sentences, not vibes. Front-load a direct answer in the first paragraph of every page. Phrase headings as the questions patients ask. Use concrete numbers and at least one real quotation.

Princeton's GEO study measured this directly: adding concrete statistics lifted AI citation by about 41 percent, and adding quotations by about 28 percent. Substance is a ranking factor now.

Part 5: Corroboration. Does the web agree with you?

Engines cross-check before they name a clinic. Your Google Business Profile, reviews, social profiles, and directory listings need to tell one consistent story: same name, same address, same services. Link your profiles from your site with sameAs markup so the engine can connect the dots.

The 30-day plan

  1. Day 1: run the free check and list every red and amber finding.
  2. Week 1: fix access. robots.txt, firewall, noindex. These are hours of work, not weeks.
  3. Week 2: fix structure. Schema for the clinic, FAQ markup, one H1 per page, landmarks.
  4. Week 3: rewrite the homepage and top service pages to front-load answers with real numbers.
  5. Week 4: align corroboration. Google Business Profile, reviews, profiles linked with sameAs. Re-run the check and compare scores.

Then hold the lead. Add one real answer page a week, keep dates fresh, and watch the engines start naming you.

Straight answers

Do I need all five parts, or just some?

All five, because they are filters in sequence. Perfect content behind a blocked robots.txt is invisible, and perfect access to an empty JavaScript shell is useless. The good news: access and structure are fast fixes.

How long until AI starts naming my clinic?

Technical fixes get read on the next crawl, often within days to weeks. Corroboration and substance compound from there. Most clinics see their visibility score jump immediately and citations follow as trust builds.

Can I do this myself?

The access fixes, often yes. Schema, server-rendering, and rewriting pages to be quotable is where most owners stall. That is exactly what the free audit scopes for you, with the price before you commit.
